Eid Mubarak

Today is Eid-ul-Adha and muslims everywhere commemorate Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son on orders from Allah.

An animal (sheep, cow or goat) is sacrificed and the meat (kurbani) is distributed to the lesser fortunate. Over the years in Mohammedville, the meat is shared amongst the family members.

This year was kinda different in that, most people opt to send money/alms (zakaat) to families elsewhere - like Guyana, Suriname and Saudi Arabia.

In the Ville, Rocky and his family were the only ones to do the sacrifice here. The few others who did sacrifice animals, did so at the abattoir.

Today it is very rainy and gloomy. We are trying to clean up, but with the big construction of the apartments, this is an exercise in futility. Chayzo painted the outside of the house and it is taking on a nice look. He is such a hard worker - sooo neat and thorough. He says he cannot paint without first cleaning the surrounding area. Makes me want him to paint the whole house - to kill two birds with one stone :) The rain is giving him a hard time.

Well I going to make space for kurbani meat in the 'fridge now.

We collected some meat from Majid.
